The workshop on interactive strategies for reading and swing dance was a great succcess with the cooperation between Dong Thap Community College and Ms. Randy Ellen Littman, English Language Fellow, Can Tho Univerisity. The workshop was significantly useful and interesting in terms of providing ample various efficient strategies to make reading lesssons more engaging and effective to inspire students the love of reading and improve their reading skills. The English teachers from high schools and secondary schools in Dong Thap province had wonderful time together discussing, sharing teaching experiences, learning strategies in teaching reading. The participants highly appreciate Ms.Randy Littman for her meticulous preparation for the workshop, her amazingly great presentation, her enthusiasm and her friendliness..

At the workshop, the participants had a lot of chances to deepen their understanding of the nature of reading as well as how to help their students improve their reading skills through various activities such as bingo, gallery walk, brainstorming, schemata, using graphic organisers, visual aids, prediction, connecting, personalization, and teamwork activities. These strategies and activities are simple, efffective and highly applicable in the participant’s teaching contexts. The English teachers strongly believe that their increased knowledge and skills from the workshop will benefit them considerably in their teaching reading skills and motivate their students to learn reading in more active and interesting ways.

Besides the workshop on interactive strategies for reading for the English teachers, Ms. Randy Ellen Littman delivered a fun American culture lesson on Swing dance for the Access program, an English program for economically disadvantaged teenage students, funded by the United State Department at Dong Thap Community College.
The Access students had an amazing time learning about Swing dance, a big part of American culture in the 1940s and 1950s. They learned about U.S history, culture and music of this era. With the great instructions of Ms. Randy Littman, an English Language Felow from Can Tho University, they participated in simple dance lesson learning the basic steps and turns, all to the music of the time.The students really enjoyed the lessons and were so happy and excited to know more about this interesting part of American culture.

Dong Thap Community College is always honored to deliver such great workshops in the future to create the most favorable conditions for teacher professional development as well as improve the English teaching and learning for the community.
