In the morning of October 15, 2015, Dong Thap Community College formally celebrated its 15th anniversary, received the Second-class Labour Order, inaugurated the new five-storey block for Offices, Library and Classrooms for IT and English teaching and learning, and started the 2015-2016 academic year.

Attendees at the ceremony included Dr. Nguyen Viet Dung- Deputy Head of the Ministry of Education and Training, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Education and Training’s Representative Agency in Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Nguyen Nhu Hanh- Deputy Head of Culture and Society Department of the Directing Committee of South-western Region; Mr. Chau Hong Phuc, Deputy Chairman of Dong Thap People’s Committee; Ms. Tran Thi Yen Van- Permanent Member of Dong Thap People’s Council; Ms. Dang Thi My Cam- Deputy Chairman of Dong Thap Vietnamese Fatherland Front; leading representatives of departments and unions of Dong Thap province; universities, colleges, vocational schools, and high schools of Dong Thap and other provinces; enterprises and manufacturers; representatives of international organizations (World University Service of Canada, Australian Volunteers International, PUM, and SJ Vietnam); and leaders, teachers, and students of Dong Thap Community College.
Over 15 years of establishment and development, Dong Thap Community College has been constantly growing to accomplish the task of human resources training to meet the needs of Dong Thap’s economic and societal development. So far, the college has provided over 15,000 students of different modes of study and cooperative training in various majors such as food technology, accounting, information technology, aquaculture, breeding, veterinary service, etc.
The high point is that the college’s training quality is constantly being enhanced and thus instills confidence into employers. The annual average rate of graduates from the college having jobs is about 94 percent.
In the 2015-2016 school year, the college has over 5,000 students of different modes of study and cooperative training, increasing 8.6 percent compared to the previous school year. The key tasks of this school year are making training plans and retraining the teaching staff and faculties’ managers to accomplish the basic and complete innovation of Vietnamese education; innovating goals, content, testing forms, and evaluating training quality to meet the requirements of developing students’ ability and quality; promoting scientific research activities and technology transfer; and establishing collaborative relationships and sustainable links with businesses and employers to handle well the relationship between training and recruiting so that all graduates have jobs.
Acknowledging the active contribution of Dong Thap Community College, the President of Vietnam has awarded the Second-class Labor Order to the college; faculties and individuals have also been rewarded by Dong Thap People’s Committee.

At the ceremony, the college also awarded “Nguyen Sinh Sac” scholarship of Dong Thap Association for Promoting Education to 29 students; each infrequent scholarship is worth VND2,000,000 and each frequent one VND7,200,000.

Students received ‘For the public development’ scholarship
The college’s ‘For the public development’ scholarship fund has received 160,220,000 VND from organizations and individuals in the 2015-2016 school year. The college has awarded 30 scholarships, each worth VND 1,500,000, to disadvantaged students who had good study results. The remaining amount of money will be awarded to students at the 2015-2016 school year’s first semester closing ceremony.

In his 2015-2016 school year opening speech, Meritorious Teacher Pham Phat, M.S., President of Dong Thap Community College gave some advice to the college’s students and teachers.
To the students: ‘I advise that you should not spend too much time on your online life while studying at college because it is unrealistic. Today’s study is not only about what to study but also how; therefore, you should build up appropriate learning strategies, always self-study and self-research, and develop soft skills…’
To the teachers: “…you should focus on developing students’ critical thinking and creativity, internship skills, and real-life practice and experiences. You should help students build up interaction skills because these are important in their future multi-relationship working environment. Try to accomplish ‘Each teacher is a model of morals, self-study, and creativity.’
At the ceremony, Mr. Chau Hong Phuc- Deputy Chairman of Dong Thap People’s Committee recommended that the college rapidly build up and develop the teaching staff and managers; continue innovating curriculums and teaching methodology, develop students’ autonomy and creativity, ensure real quality, meet society and integration requirements; accelerate scientific and technological research; strengthen international cooperation and cooperative training; etc.
On this occasion, the college also inaugurated the new five-storey block for Offices, Library and Classrooms for IT and English teaching and learning which is 5,543 square meters in area (1 ground and 4 floors) and includes 22 offices, library, 2 reading rooms, 1 book warehouse, 3 foreign language classroom, and 3 computer classrooms. This is an important event marking the growth and development of Dong Thap Community College, which is gradually improving facilities to meet the needs of the college’s teaching, studying, and researching.
